Aswan is south of Luxor, about 3 hours by car.

On route you should stop off at Edfu to visit one of the best preserved temples dedicated to the Falcon God Horus.
|

Also Kom Ombo where unusually the temple is for 2 Gods - Sobek the Crocodile God and Horus.

|
In Aswan you have much to see the engineering masterpiece of the High Dam which now controls the flow of the River Nile, Philea Temple which is set on an Island reached by boat and the Unfinished Obelisk. Visit the Nubian Museum, Elephantine and Kitcheners Islands. Take a break on the terrace of the Old Cataract Hotel or a Felucca sail on the river.

For the excursion to Abu Simbel it is an early start but well worth it, to see the awe inspiring Temples built by Rameses II situated on Lake Nasser and saved from the waters when the High Dam was built by the United Nations.
